amsterdam... life

We had beautiful weather in Amsterdam. It was great to see everyone enjoying it. People were hanging out on their front steps or sitting on windowsills reading.  Little tables were set up with food and drinks on people´s front sidewalks. And the canals were filled with little boats carrying groups of friends. It makes me happy just thinking about it... 

These are the last of them. How about if we all meet in Amsterdam next year to take more?

What a great trip around the world! And look, I´ve ended up back in Amsterdam... Actually this is Edam, it´s about 20 km from the city. Look what you get for 7€ round trip. Got to love Dutch public transportation.

Hi everyone! This week´s theme comes from Cele and is "cityscapes." She suggested that we go to the highest point in our town and show what we see. This was taken from a spot in the medieval part of my town looking out at the center. I know... the center of town also looks pretty medieval...

amsterdam...

There are 750,000 people in Amsterdam and 500,000 bikes. This is hard to imagine until you get there... I was loving it! Okay, so I only have 492,000 more bike pictures to show you. And then we can move onto boats...

I loved how when there would be two people riding a bike, the person on the back would jump off whenever they would come to a bridge so the person pedaling could get over it. Then they would jump back on and keep going. (There was a lot of laughter...) So when in Amsterdam, find a  corner café facing a bridge, order a beer and enjoy.

corner view "coffee" vitoria, spain

This is where you can find me most mornings. The plaza is usually full with people and outdoor terraces, but unfortunately I took this early on a cloudy morning. I had the idea of taking pictures of all my favorite cafés´ views to show you. But between cooking a week´s worth of food, making sure everyone had clean underwear, and brushing up on my Dutch I didn´t have time. Come to think of it, maybe with a few more coffees I would have finished faster...

How do you say, "two coffees with milk" in your corner? Hey, it´s up there with "please," "thank you," and "toilet?" (Or in your dream vacation spot.) "Dos cafés con leche, por favor."

What are the most popular ways to drink coffee? "café con leche" (coffee with milk) "cortado" (espresso with a little milk) "solo" (espresso).

How do you take your coffee? With organic milk and honey.

French press, percolator, espresso, or other? Stovetop espresso.

Are you a dunker? Yup...

What was the funniest topic of conversation over a recent cup of coffee? Sara (my 15 year old daughter) had three boy friends over to help them wax their legs... no, they are not on the swim team..  yes, they wax more often than I ...

I´m a recovering white flour and sugar addict. So I´m always on the lookout for anything sans my two favorite ingredients. (Didn´t know I spoke French, did ya?) These take literally two minutes to make. You can find the recipe here. Bon appetit! (I´m fluent...)

i´ve been thinking again...

I thought up next week´s theme mostly because it happened to be very early. Now, after giving it more thought, I realize how much coffee has played a part in my life.  Over a cup of coffee I´ve solved problems, thought up business adventures, made lots of plans, and laughed... a lot (among other things). So I thought it would be fun to add the following to our corner view "coffee"post...  to have something to talk about over our cups of coffee.

The moment Bonnie uttered the words "the great outdoors," the sky opened and it began to rain. (Still love ya Bonnie!) We did get a few days of nice weather. This is what my town looks like on a sunny day in the great outdoors. Just wondering if anyone works here?...
